About This Blog

I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.

Holy shit! That's how that goes... www.lucerotabs.blogspot.com

Thank you to the folks who have sent me submissions, suggestions, and corrections. Thanks also to anyone who posted a tab on the luceromusic.com boards. You can find me there posting as Boston Twang. You can also email me at lucerotabs@gmail. Submissions and/or corrections are greatly appreciated.

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords

Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)

Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).

Dog Day Nights

Happy Labor Day!

The main riff is pretty simple. It starts by bending up half a step. At different times he plays different parts of it, but that's easy to pick out. Just listen to the record and you'll hear what I mean.

Main riff:

--------------------------
--------------------------
-5^-5^-5-3--------------3-
-----------5-3-5--5-3-5---
--------------------------
--------------------------

--------------------------
--------------------------
-5^-5^-5-3----------------
-----------5-3-5--5-3-5---
--------------------------
--------------------------

On the G chords I think he's he's playing regular two finger G5 power chords (355xxx) but he's reaching down with his pinky to get some A#s (655xxx). That's what produces the churning effect. You could also fudge sort of the same thing playing open chords by playing (3x0033) and (3x0333), but on the record I'm pretty sure the A# is in the bass of the chord.

G
Hey bartender watch the line
G
Broke as hell, but feeling fine
G
Drink `em down dog day nights
G
Pay the tab some other time

Riff

G
Shots of whiskey chase the heat
G
Broken hearts, drunken feet
G
it was over `fore I turned around
G
Where was Jodie when the lights went out

Riff

G (No A#s)
Take that shot in front of you
F
Give the devil his due
C
Drink `em down dog day nights

That's all there is to the song. If anybody else can make out the rest of the lyrics, I'll add them in.

You heard it here first, folks. Starting an obsessive tablature blog devoted to an obscure southern rock band is a great way to impress women. Now you can all cancel those gym memberships. ;-)

In all sincerity, I'm glad I could help. And thank you for the nudge. I'd basically forgotten about doing this one, and often revisiting a song after a break helps me hear it better.
