I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords

Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)

Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).

Women and Work

Hell yeah. It's that time again, folks. New Lucero songs are starting to trickle out into the world. There has to be at least seven of them in the chute. And despite being encumbered by inconveniences like a new job and a full load of grad work, I am determined to keep up with the tabs.

The latest one is called Women and Work. Here's a nice video of it. It's a bouncy working man's blues that reminds me of both The Devil & Maggie and Sounds of the City. The main part of the song is an A shuffle like this:

The strumming pattern there sounds like up-down-up-rest. All the chords are power chords except the typical Lucero Dsus (xx0230).

Brian has a cool fill that shows up twice. You can see a video of him working on it with producer Ted Hutt here. It goes like this:
