There are no straight chords in the song, so I'm going to number each section and pair numbers with the lyrics instead of chords. It's kind of a classic Ben Nichols song where he picks around a chord while changing the bass note.
The picking pattern for the verses is something like this:
(1)
---------------------
---------------------
---4----4----4-----4-
---4-----------4-----
-2-2--2----2-----2---
---------------------
(2)
---------------------
---------------------
---4----4----4-----4-
---4-----------4-----
-0-0--0----0-----0---
---------------------
(3)
--------------------------
--------------------------
----4-----4-------4-----4-
------4-------------4-----
--------------------------
-0------0------2------2---
(4)
---------------------
---------------------
---4----4----4-----4-
---4-----------4-----
-2-2--2----2-----2---
---------------------
Brian's lead over the verses is easy. It goes like this:
(1)
-----------
-----------
-4---4-6-4-
-----------
-----------
-----------
(2)
-----------
-----------
-4---4-6-4-
-----------
-----------
-----------
(3)
---------
---------
---------
-6---6s8-
---------
---------
(4)
----
----
----
-9--
----
----
It's hard to tell precisely what Ben is playing for the choruses. I think this is right, but he's buried way low in the mix. You can clearly hear that he's going back and forth between the B and G stings on the fourth fret, and I'm pretty sure he's getting these bass notes. Lucero Message Board member, Cory Williams posted a video from the October show in Cambridge that helps to see what he's doing.
(5)
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|---4------4------4------|-4------4------4------4---|
|-----4------4------4----|---4------4------4------4-|
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|-2--------------------2-|------2------2------2-----|
|--------0------2--------|--------------------------|
(6)
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|---4------4------4------|-4------4------4------4---|
|-----4------4------4----|---4------4------4------4-|
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|-2--------------------2-|------2------2------2-----|
|--------0------2--------|--------------------------|
(7)
|----------------------------|----------------------------|
|---4------4------4------4---|---4------4------4------4---|
|-----4------4------4------4-|-----4------4------4------4-|
|----------------------------|----------------------------|
|-0------0------0------0-----|-0------0------0------0-----|
|----------------------------|----------------------------|
(8)
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|---4------4------4------|-4------4------4------4---|
|-----4------4------4----|---4------4------4------4-|
|------------------------|--------------------------|
|----------------------2-|------2------2------2-----|
|-0------0------2--------|--------------------------|
Brian's chorus riff is very similar to what he plays over the verses. It goes like this:
(5)
-----------
---------7-
-4-4s6-8---
-----------
-----------
-----------
(6)
-----------
-----------
-4-4s6-8---
---------9-
-----------
-----------
(7)
-----------
-----------
-4-4s6-6s8-
-----------
-----------
-----------
(8)
------------
------------
-4-4s6-8----
---------9--
------------
------------
That leaves us with the bridges (it's alright...)
Ben's part goes like this:
(9)
--------------------------
--------------------------
-----4-----4------4-----4-
-------4------------4-----
--------------------------
-0-0-----0----2-2-----2---
(10)
--------------------------
--------------------------
-----4-----4------4-----4-
-------4------------4-----
--------------------------
-4-4-----4----2-2-----2---
(11)
----------------------------
----------------------------
---4------4------4------4---
-----4------4------4------4-
-2------2------2------2-----
----------------------------
Brian's part goes like this:
(9)
--------------
---5-4----5-4-
-4------4-----
--------------
--------------
--------------
(10)
---------------
---5-4--7-5-4--
-4-------------
---------------
---------------
---------------

About This Blog
I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.
Thank you to the folks who have sent me submissions, suggestions, and corrections. Thanks also to anyone who posted a tab on the luceromusic.com boards. You can find me there posting as Boston Twang. You can also email me at lucerotabs@gmail. Submissions and/or corrections are greatly appreciated.
Holy shit! That's how that goes... www.lucerotabs.blogspot.com

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords
Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)
Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).
