For a song that's almost entirely based around two chords, this one is kind of tricky. Let's start by taking a look at those chords:
(42444x)
(02444x)
I'm not even sure what they're called. I guess one would be B with a G# in the bass and the other B with an E in the bass. Whatever they're called, they take a little practice to finger cleanly.
Then there's the fact that one chord in the chorus has changed over the years. It always starts F# E G#, but on the demo version from the TMFW bonus disc the next chord is F#. On the studio version, it's C#. In this video from what must have been around the time the record came out (he looks like he's about 12, and he's playing an Epi Dot) the chord is C#. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKvQF4EeT0I&feature=related
But in more recent videos, like this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y74wff_XW8o the chord goes back to F#.
So I don't know what to tell you. It goes F# E G# ? B A E. Plug in whichever chord you prefer for the question mark.
I've gone back and added Todd's lead parts at the bottom of the post. They're fun to play, so I recommend checking them out.
G1 parts:
During the first part of each verse he's playing a simple riff on the top notes of those chords:
Verse Riffs
Sometimes:
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------4-------------------------4-4---------4---
-----2-------------------------2-----------2-----2-
-4-------------------------4-----------4-----------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------4-------------------------4-4---------4---
-----2-------------------------2-----------2-----2-
-0-------------------------0-----------0-----------
But more often:
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------4-4-----------4-----------4-4---------4---
-----2-------------2-----------2-----------2-----2-
-4-------------4-----------4-----------4-----------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------4-4-----------4-----------4-4---------4---
-----2-------------2-----------2-----------2-----2-
-0-------------0-----------0-----------0-----------
Once he switches to playing the chords, but there's a knd of staccato rythym that takes a little practice to get the accents right.
There's also a fill that he plays where he lets each chord ring and then picks around the top and bottom. It goes like this:
Fill
----------------------------------------------------
---4-4-----4-----4-----4---4-4-----4-----4-----4----
---4---4-----4-----4-------4---4-----4-----4--------
---4-----------------------4------------------------
---2-----------------------2------------------------
-4-4-----4-----4-----4---0-0-----0-----0-----0------
The chords for the chorus ("We ain't got much...") are all power chords:
F# E G# F# (or C#) B A E
Verse Riff
there's nothing romantic on the city streets
you drive down 'em once and you’ve seen everything
Chords
the river's rising up, the city’s sinking down
Well I’m just trying to get back to the other side of town
Well I got a little girl, and she's waiting on me
Fill
Verse Riff
She says 'I'll see you when you get home'
And now these working days are getting just a little too long
Chords
Well I can see her now, sitting at the kitchen table
Record player playing for my rock and roll angel
She says 'I'll see you when you get home'
Chorus
Now we ain’t got much
But this town belongs to us
Tonight she's mine, tonight
Tonight she's mine
Verse Riff
Verse Riff
The wind crossing over
the river just howls
through the empty city streets that we drive down
Chords
Riding in the car, one arm around her
Living, this city's gonna be all ours
the wind on the river, such a beautiful sound
Chords
Now we ain’t got much
But this town belongs to us
Tonight she’s mine, tonight
Verse Riff
Tonight she’s mine
Cause tonight
She's mine for the night
Chords
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine
Tonight she's mine

About This Blog
I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.
Thank you to the folks who have sent me submissions, suggestions, and corrections. Thanks also to anyone who posted a tab on the luceromusic.com boards. You can find me there posting as Boston Twang. You can also email me at lucerotabs@gmail. Submissions and/or corrections are greatly appreciated.
Holy shit! That's how that goes... www.lucerotabs.blogspot.com

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords
Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)
Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).
