About This Blog

I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords

Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)

Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).

That Much Further West

This tab is based on the live version of the song, which is slightly different from the album, which has even more layering.
Even after resorting to the live version, it has a ton of parts to tab.
Hopefully they aren't too hard to follow, but I'll also do a video to demontrate them.


During the verses one guitar (Ben) plays this churning riff

The second guitar just plays chords over that (E, G#, E, F#, E)

During the breaks between the verses the first guitar plays a similar riff like this

The first time through the second guitar just plays chords over that (B, E, G#, E)

The second and third times through Brian plays a lead like this


This just gets the notes, not the number of strikes. If he lingers on a note for a while I gave it a "_"

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you looking for something that's more matched to the record? I think what's up here is pretty damn close to note for note what they play live. (Brian mixes it up a lot, so it's a bit of a moving target.)

I think what he's trying to say is could you fill in how many notes are played in the solo. Like in the opening riff where the electric guitar comes in. The notes are there but it would be helpful to know how many times you need to hit each note. I get a little lost when trying to figure it out.

Someday I'll probably try to reorganize this tab, and when I do I might add the numbers. It's an unwieldy beast of a tab, but hopefully it helps that there's also a video. For now, though, there's just not enough hours in the days.
