About This Blog

I started this blog because the tabs on the Lucero message board kept getting lost when they switched sites. A blog isn't a perfect forum for guitar tabs and chords, but it now has posts for all but a handful of their songs. And, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for Lucero tabs that has been endorsed by an actual Lucero guitarist. Accept no substitutes.

Holy shit! That's how that goes... www.lucerotabs.blogspot.com

Thank you to the folks who have sent me submissions, suggestions, and corrections. Thanks also to anyone who posted a tab on the luceromusic.com boards. You can find me there posting as Boston Twang. You can also email me at lucerotabs@gmail. Submissions and/or corrections are greatly appreciated.

General Thoughts on Lucero Chords

Ben seems to favor chord variations that fret the B string at the third fret. If a C, Em, G, or A doesn't seem quite right, try:
Cadd9 (x32030), Em7 (022030), G (320033), Asus (x02230)

Also, I think he leaves the E string open on a lot of his D chords (xx0230).

Coming Home

As far as I can tell the boys haven't played a live full-band version of this song since Brian rejoined the band. I've certainly never seen them play it, and that makes it a little bit hard to tell what's really going on with Ben's guitar part. But here's what I think. I *think* that this is the only Lucero song that was recorded with Ben using a capo. Here's why I think that. The demo version from the bonus disc and the versions I've heard Ben play solo are all played in the key of C with an Am-G-C-F chord progression. The record and the one full-band live recording I've heard are in F with the same progression 5 half steps higher: D-C-F-Bb. It seems likely that he wrote it in C and they transposed it to F in the studio. Maybe he played it with a capo to make the switch easier. In any event, both the main riff and Ben's verses picking sound like they're played with key of C shapes. Plus, this was when Todd Gill was in the band, and the Paper Hearts songs are loaded with capos, so maybe he influenced the decision. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The point is: The Guitar 1 parts of this tab are meant to be played with a capo on the fifth fret. The chords refer to the shapes, not the notes. The second guitar, which has no capo, has its parts tabbed at the bottom. (Thankfully Ben doesn't subject us to this sort of nonsense very often.)
